Alan - Investing Ethically Founder

Alan

Alan is the founder of Investing Ethically. He lives with his two teenage sons (he has three other children and two grandchildren) and has a partner in Lorna.

Alan joined Barchester Green in 1990 and then was the leading light in founding The Ethical Investment Co-op. He decided in 2000 to set up a firm based on the teachings that are important to him (Quakers and Stephen Covey).

Alan now spends his time spreading the word about ethical investment through conferences, articles and interveiws.

Outside of work and family Alan has two passions: for classic cars and playing the tuba.

He can often be found on the track, cruising the lanes in one of his classic cars or playing his Tuba in the Hellesdon and Sprowston Brass Band.

Phil - Financial Advisor

Phil

Phil joined Investing Ethically Ltd in 2001 as a trainee adviser seeking a career change into financial services.

Since joining the firm, Phil has gained the diploma in financial services and is currently working towards the Advanced Diploma qualification.

After taking on a directorship in the firm, Phil has become the Complaince Officer which makes him responsiable for ensuring that Investing Ethically Ltd meets the high standards of advice and service required by the regulator and most importantly our clients!

Phil would probably describe himself as an ‘outdoors person’ with a life long passion for the natural world. This deep interest in nature led Phil to complete an undergraduate degree in Physical Geography at Leicester University. His pursuit of knowledge continued with the completion of a Master of Science degree in Environmental science at The University of East Anglia in 1999.

Phil says his career path has now come almost full circle as he has managed to find the perfect job which combines his interest in all things financial with a deep commitment to helping clients invest according to their own ethical beliefs and concerns. The ‘ethical’ dimension to our financial advice is one of the primary reasons why I joined investing ethically at the beginning.

When asked what is the best and worst elements of your job, Phil says, the highlights are the many positive comments and letters from my clients and knowing that I have helped them to navigate the often opaque world of financial services. The most difficult aspect of my role is the enormous sense of personal responsibility I feel for each and every piece of advice I give to my clients.

Phil is married and has two children Charlie and Thomas.

Lisa - Financial Advisor

Lisa

Lisa has been an independent financial adviser for six years. She is currently working towards her Diploma and is qualified to give advice on Long Term Care.

She has a degree in Development Studies and an MA in Education. She has worked with Investing Ethically for eight years after having spent eight years working for Norfolk Education and Action for Development on their fair trade and   iternational trade projects.

Lisa is involved in a number of local development and human rights charities as well as the local Danish Society. She grew up in Denmark and came to the UK to study

at university….and liked it so much that she decided to stay in the UK.

Lisa regularly contributes to the business news for BBC Radio Norfolk.

Lisa is married with two children who keep her busy when she is not

working for Investing Ethically. She prefers cycling to work and likes

to grow her own fruit and vegetables. In her free time Lisa likes to

bake, knit, read, swim and ski.

Andy - Financial Advisor

Andy

Andy joined the firm in June 2006. He has been a financial adviser since 1998 working for Aviva, Barclays, and Gerrards in Norwich and London.

Before leaving the last of these companies, he had become increasingly disillusioned with main stream financial services. It seemed to him that the whole emphasis of the organisations he worked for was the pursuit of money, with little consideration to anything else.

At Investing Ethically he says he found something totally different.

For Andy it is not just about the fact that all the pensions and investments that Investing Ethically recommends are ethical but also the way we as a company treat each other, our clients and the involvement we have in the direction and growth of the company.

Andy joined the firm because he wanted to be part of the solution rather than the cause of the many problems facing the planet today and that sense has only continued to grow since coming on board.

As well as the standard FPC1, 2 and 3 qualifications Andy has taken 3 of the higher level examination and so has now completed the Diploma in Financial Services and is continuing to work towards the Advanced Diploma. The advanced exams were in:

G10 Tax and Trusts

G60 Pension

G30 Corporate Finance

When Andy isn’t dealing with the financial world he is likely to be out in the great outdoors either hiking, cycling, canoeing or camping and sometime all of these at the same time !?
